Women Veterans Initiative – Woman Veteran of the Year Award

Women Veterans Initiative (WVI) is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Minnesota Woman Veteran of the Year Award! WVI is proud to again sponsors this annual award. The nominations are due on February 28th.

Please consider nominating outstanding women Veterans for this recognition. The 2019 award will be presented as part of the 2019 MDVA Women Veterans Conferenceplanned for Saturday, March 23, 2019 at YMCA Maplewood Community Center.

The 2018 Woman Veteran of the Year was Kay Bauer.

Kay was born and raised in St. Paul, MN with 13 siblings. She now resides in Coon Rapids, MN. Kay is blessed with a wonderful husband of 48 years; two awesome sons; six fantastic grandchildren, and hundreds of great friends, nieces, nephews and cousins! She joined the U.S. Navy in 1958.

U.S. Navy: 13 years Active Duty: Newport, RI; St. Albans, LI, NY; Yokosuka, Japan; Agana, Guam; Great Lakes, IL; Rach Gia, South Vietnam; Quantico, VA; US Navy Recruiting – MN, ND, SD, IA, WI, IL.

U.S. Navy: 22 years Reserve Duty: Camp LeJeune, San Diego, Bremerton, Key West, Camp Pendleton, Hameln Germany, London, England and many other areas.

35 years at Miller, St. Luke’s, United Hospital in St. Paul: mostly ICU; and taught Emergency Medical Education for all Allina hospitals and clinics, at St. Catherine University, Hennepin Technical College, Lakeview Community College and numerous inner-city day care, church, women’s shelter, etc. facilities.

Life member: VFW, American Legion, Navy Association; Navy Nurse Corps Association; Reserve Military Association; Association of Military Surgeons; VVA; Vietnam Women’s Memorial; Women in Military Service for America; Women Veterans of MN; Women Veterans Initiative; and numerous nursing and church organizations.
