Veterans Affairs Volunteer Service (VAVS) Program

The Military Order of the Purple Heart’s Veterans Affairs Volunteer Service (VAVS) Program is in effect throughout the VA medical center system. VAVS operates the largest volunteer program in the Federal Government, supplementing staff and resources in all areas of patient care and support. Volunteers supplement essential personnel, equipment, facilities and programs for the direct and indirect care, treatment and welfare of veteran patients. Military Order of the Purple Heart VAVS volunteers participate in the VA’s program and provide an invaluable service to other veterans and their families. The official VAVS Handbook is available for download below and on the downloads page to provide guidance to the Department and Chapter members involved in the Service.
