Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Announces 2018 Service and Celebration Activities
ST. PAUL, MN – At 10:00am on Monday, January 15, 2018, the Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday will host the 32nd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul. The event will include remarks from Governor Mark Dayton, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, and Rep. Ilhan Omar.
“To continue the work that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. championed over 60 years ago, we must reaffirm our commitments to equal rights, opportunities, and justice for all,” said Governor Dayton. “I encourage Minnesotans to join us on January 15th, as we honor past civil rights leaders and renew our state’s commitment to building a better future for all Minnesotans.”
This year, the theme of the celebration will be: “Life’s most persistent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”
“This celebration is a chance to recognize the incredible legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as we continue our work today to advance greater justice and equity for everybody,” said James Burroughs, Chief Inclusion Officer for the State of Minnesota. “This year, as we remember his legacy, I encourage all Minnesotans to ask themselves: What are you doing for others?”
This year’s program will be hosted by Brandi Powell, KSTP-TV Anchor, and will feature musical performances by the Billingsley School of Music & Arts, Stokely Williams, and Maria Isa. This event is free and open to the public. More details can be found below.
